Fort Environmental Laboratories is an environmental toxicology laboratory and consulting firm specializing in study of amphibians, reptiles, and fish. Co-founded by Dr. Douglas (Doug) and Deanne Fort, FEL is the only commercial laboratory in the U.S. to use amphibians and reptilian species as indicators of environment health (InfoGraphic). Fort Environmental Laboratories has developed or co-developed test methods in the following areas, including:

 
     
 
  • Short-Term Embryo-Larval Assays, including Frog Embryo Teratogenesis Assay - Xenopus (FETAX)
  • Amphibian Metamorphosis Assays (Thyroid Disruption)
  • Amphibian Partial and Full Lifecycle Assays
  • Reptilian Reproduction and Developmental Assays

Fort Environmental Laboratories has played a critical role in the development and validation of these test methods, including the development of several ASTM Standard Guides and publication of over 80 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters.

Today, Fort Environmental Laboratories offers a unique array of commercial environmental toxicology testing services with over 35 different species. These services include study design, study performance, data collection and analysis support, and consultation.
